“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (KJV)
Reflection
The morning table is the smallest church a household will ever build. There is no pulpit and no organ. There is a mug, a plate, a chair for a brother, a chair for a sister, and — over all of it — a Word that has to be spoken before the eggs are cold. Deuteronomy does not describe a Bible study. It describes a rhythm: when thou sittest, when thou walkest, when thou liest down, when thou risest up. Scripture is not an event slipped into the week; it is the air the household breathes at the table it already sets. Dear one, if the household has drifted, do not begin with a program. Begin with a verse said aloud over the first cup of coffee. The table will remember what it was made for.
Prayer line
Lord, make our morning table a small altar. Let your Word be spoken here before anything else is. Amen.
May the Lord bless you, dear one of this household, and keep you.
