MORNING · DAY ONE

The first word of the day

A short morning devotional for the household. King James Bible.

“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;” Psalm 63:1 (KJV)

Reflection

There is a small window at the start of each day when the mouth has not yet spoken and the mind has not yet begun to argue with itself. In that window, one word — Lord — is enough. It orders everything that follows. The dish washed after breakfast is washed for Him. The email answered at nine is answered under Him. The child dressed before school is dressed in His sight. This is not a technique for productivity. It is the household confessing, before the light has finished coming through the curtains, that the day has an owner and that owner is Christ. Begin with a word, and the whole day is set in a Christian direction.

Prayer line

Lord, before I speak to anyone else this morning, I speak to you. Take this day. Amen.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
