MORNING · DAY TWO

Open thou mine eyes

A short morning devotional for the household. King James Bible.

“Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” Psalm 119:18 (KJV)

Reflection

The morning has a way of making the ordinary invisible. Bread on the table looks like bread. A brother at the door looks like a brother. Traffic looks like traffic. The Psalmist asks the Lord for a different pair of eyes — eyes that see wondrous things in what appears to be very small law. When we ask this before we walk into the day, the same bread suddenly carries the memory of five thousand fed on a hillside. The same brother carries the face of Christ. The same traffic carries the patience the Lord is teaching us. Nothing is changed on the outside. Everything is changed on the inside.

Prayer line

Lord, open my eyes today, that I may behold wondrous things in my ordinary hours. Amen.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
