“Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.” Romans 12:15 (KJV)
Reflection
The register does not only carry the good news of the household. It also carries the losses — the miscarriage no one is talking about, the son who has stopped answering the phone, the brother whose marriage is quietly ending, the sister who is caring for a parent she is losing week by week. Paul's instruction is not that we solve their grief. It is that we weep with them. The Christian household does not rush the weeping brother to the joy stage. It sits down beside him on the same step and lets the tears fall into the same silence. In a world that will not sit still with sorrow for five minutes, the household that will sit for an hour is doing a Christlike thing. Dear one, if a brother or sister has been quiet lately, ask them one plain question this week — and be prepared to weep, not fix.
Prayer line
Lord, teach our household to weep well. Slow us down beside those who mourn. Amen.
May the Lord bless you, dear one of this household, and keep you.
