EVENING · DAY SEVEN

A small benediction over the house

A short evening devotional for the household. King James Bible.

“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.” Numbers 6:24–26 (KJV)

Reflection

At the close of the week, the household does what Aaron did over Israel: it speaks a blessing over its own walls. Bless every room. Bless the door that opened and closed today for many good reasons and a few hard ones. Bless the meal that was cooked and the pot that was washed. Bless the child who is sleeping and the brother who is on his phone and the sister who is still awake in another time zone. Bless the household with the Lord's own words. This is not superstition. It is a Christian family speaking, into the walls of its home, what the Lord Himself has said over His people.

Prayer line

The Lord bless this house, and keep it. The Lord make his face shine upon those who sleep here. The Lord give them peace. Amen, amen, amen.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
