EVENING · DAY SIX

The work was yours

A short evening devotional for the household. King James Bible.

“Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it:” Psalm 127:1 (KJV)

Reflection

At the end of a working day, the household is tempted to review its own performance. Did I do enough? Did I fail? Was I diligent? Was I lazy? These are honest questions, and the Lord welcomes them. But the deeper question is a Psalm 127 question: whose work was I doing today? Because if it was ours, then a poor day is a poor day and a good day is a small victory. But if it was His — if we were labouring under His hand, in a house He is building — then every hour is being weighed by a wiser judge than us. He does not despise the small effort. He does not miss the hidden faithfulness. He builds the house, and He is not in a hurry.

Prayer line

Lord, the work of this day was yours. Take it, correct what needs correcting, and let me sleep. Amen.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
