EVENING · DAY FIVE

If any brother be far

A short evening devotional for the household. King James Bible.

“Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.” 1 John 3:21 (KJV)

Reflection

Sometimes at the end of the day, a name arrives in the heart — the name of a brother or a sister with whom something has gone unresolved. It is easy to argue with the name, or to explain to ourselves why it is not our fault. But Christian evenings do not close on those quiet arguments. They close on Matthew 5 — go, first, be reconciled. Perhaps the reconciliation cannot happen tonight. But the intention to walk toward it tomorrow can. Say the name to the Lord. Ask Him for the humility to make the first move. Sleep with a lighter conscience than the argument would have given you.

Prayer line

Lord, if there is a brother I owe an apology to, prepare my heart tonight to give it tomorrow. Amen.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
